Hello everyone!

As usual, here's a post dedicated to all of the digital paintings I created this month. (Side note: If you're interested, you can also check out my art recaps for January and February!)

And phew, this was probably the month I created the most number of pieces. It makes me feel accomplished but I'm afraid that the urge to put out often new work takes a toll on quality since I'm not very experienced yet with drawing and painting. Regardless, feels great to have finished things to share!

So, let's talk a little bit about each digital painting:

JELLYFISH
This was my first painting of this month. I wanted to create something a bit different from my usual subjects and have these fantasy elements combined. Looking back at this piece again, I would make some changes on the composition and her face, but overall I see some potential! I might try to recreate this in the future.

INTO THE DARK SIDE
This one is my favorite digital painting I made this month. I love designing characters and create their outfits. She's the type of character that if I ever make a game or something similar, she would be in there. I didn't have much planned beforehand, so the idea of the portal, the weapon and the mood of this painting were definitely an after thought.
ARMORED ANGEL
For this piece, I had the main idea in mind, unlike the last digital painting. Sometimes, due to many different reasons, we don't really achieve what we idealized, which can be a bit scary as I would prefer to rely on planning instead of improvising/going with the flow.
And I say this because I have many unfinished psd files that I stopped working on, once I didn't know which direction to go for. I just get fed up with what's in front of me, so I move on to a new sketch and the cycle repeats once in a while. Regardless, I still like this piece although I didn't put the necessary hours to make it look more polished.
DREAM CATCHER
I love when we start to sketch something and the painting sort of takes off. It's an extremely simple concept, but I really liked the simplicity of it and the colour combo. It's one of the rare ocasions where I didn't spend too much time or thought on it, but the process and end result turned out really pleasant to me!

JAINA PROUDMOORE
I love playing Heroes of the Storm and very often really amazing character skins are added to the game. For the Lunar Year theme, Jaina got this really awesome red dress and I wanted to reproduce it. I tried to stay true to the dress details and her accessories. For the background, I had to look up on how to paint ice and came across this really helpful video if you're interested in watching!
BLOSSOM
Here's a very quick speedpaint that took me just under an hour, which is why it looks a bit rough. It was fun working with bright colours and do something different from what I'm used to. I was quite carefree on this one, which felt good.
AQUAMARINE
This is my take on this month's birthstone, the Aquamarine, for my Birthstone Series I'll be making throughout this year. This birthstone is linked to the sea and water, so I decided to make the character's hair as the sea water and then have all of those sea related elements in there.
 DEER GIRL
This was a quick portrait that I was able to finish within a few hours. I started to love having green lighting on my paintings as it gives off such a cool look. I am thinking on choosing some animals and make portraits inspired by them to make a collection/series out of those illustrations.
 FLOURISHED
There's really no deep meaning behind this one. I wanted to make this sort of queen of skeletons that looks very innocent, but actually holds a lot of power. At the time, I had no clue on what to do for the background, so flower brushes came to the rescue! :D
RELAX
And the last one! This painting is actually an old painting from the beginning of this year that I haven't picked up on until a few days ago. She had an outfit that I didn't like and as the layers were already all merged together, I got lazy to change it since it would take a bit of work. But here it is now! :)

And that's it! Thank you so much for checking out this month's art recap! Don't forget to check out January and February's art recaps as well!

Hello! I hope you had a great weekend!

This is my take on this month's birthstone - the Aquamarine. The name of the birthstone is pretty self explanatory and I was very excited to make something water/sea related. I hope you like it!! :)

You can check out my past birthstone's illustrations here for January and here for February!

Hello!

Yesterday I decided to just paint a simple portrait. Since last week, I've been committed to post everyday on IG from Monday through Friday, and it's quite hard to have fresh new finished pieces everyday. I don't have the skill yet to produce finished pieces from head to toe in just a few hours, so  making some portraits once in a while are quicker to finish and still fun to make.

For this one, I decided to play around once again with green lighting which I love how mystical it makes a piece look. It's a simple concept, but I still enjoyed it!

So I hope you like it and  that's it for this week!

Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday!

Here's an under 1 hour speedpaint I finished yesterday. I really wanted to play around with fun and bright colours combined as well as having a different perspective on my character.

I hope you like it! :)

Hello everyone!

I'm starting off this week with a Jaina Proudmoore fanart that I finished a few hours ago. She is one of my favorite characters both in Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm and this is my favorite skin she of hers!

I hope you like it! :)

Hello everyone!

As I mentioned on a previous blog post, I will be making a monthly tutorial or step by step digital painting process, and this time I decided to make a short tutorial on how I paint my digital portraits/how I paint skin. It's a bit hard to describe at times certain steps, so please bear with me! :D

On this tutorial I used Photoshop, a Wacom tablet and only three PS brushes for this: the round brush, airbrush and a dotted brush for the freckles.

Let's get started!

I: Here I start with a plain base colour. I have the main colours swatched so you can pick them if you'd like.

II: Now, I map out where the shade and highlights were initially going to be. I'm not too strict about these shades I'm choosing, since what matters at this early stage is to have a nice base of colours to work from. However, it's nice that they still look like they belong together and that their saturation and hue isn't too far off from each other.

III: Two more shades are now introduced to build up the skin shades and its rendering: a dark brown and a nice dark pink shade. Keep in mind that as I use the pen pressure, the opacity of the darker pink won't be shown in its full force.
I also outlined her face features with the dark brown as well as around the face. The key is to build the contrast between colours so it gets to the point where we don't need the sketch lines anymore when the face features are visible in form on their own.
IV: With a very dark brown colour, once again, I outline the face features and start to render the eye. The the initial highlights are also blended with the other shades.

V: On a Multiply layer mode, with the lightest colour of the swatches, I darken around the face, neck and shoulders. Here, I fixed the position of the lips and render them a little bit. Once again, blend, blend and blend all the current shades on the face until they start to shift into each other nicely.

VI: On this step, I fixed her eye position, which was a bit skewed before and fixed her hair colour since it complements her better. With a dotted brush, I placed some freckles on a new layer and lowered the opacity. I also played around with the the Colour Balance adjustment layer until I was happy with the overall skin shades.
VII: With the Colour Dodge brush mode, I place some little highlights on the eyes and lips with the lightest colour from the swatches. For the lighting casting on the character, I chose a dark purple to make it a bit fun. Speaking of fun, I also painted on her an elf ear 'cause why not!

VIII: When it comes to the skin, the last step is already quite finished, so this is just an extra effort if you'd like to go a little bit further. I used Selective Colour to fine tune each colour and I merged all of the layers into a new one and used Gaussian Blur. On this same layer, I selected the Soft Light layer mode, so it gives her a softer and richer look in terms of colours.

And that's it!

I hope you were able to take something out of this skin tutorial and that you have fun with your experiments!

I'll see you next week with some new digital paintings that I'll be posting.

And here's another digital painting I finished a few days ago! This one has a simplicity to it that I really liked. I had lots of fun painting the dress and messing around with the background and its colours!

Once again, I really hope you like it. <3

Hello! How have you been?

For this digital painting I decided to go with a different pose from what I am usually comfortable with when drawing. It's nice to change things up a bit!
